 LUCY McCARRAHER Lucy became a national expert in Work-Life Balance after researching and writing about parenting and children’s issues for such organisations as the NSPCC, Barnardo's, National Parenting Forum, Exploring Parenthood, Thomas Coram Foundation, Parents At Work and the Advertising Association. As a consultant and trainer, her clients have included Virgin, Microsoft, Linklaters, Lloyds TSB, BP, HSBC, Barclays, GlaxoSmithKline, Department for Transport, Office of National Statistics, Bank of England, Office of the Rail Regulator, Leeds City Council, Royal Borough of Kingston, several NHS Trusts and many SMEs. Lucy is a judge for Working Families' annual Best Boss Competition and the Employer Awards; she was a founding associate of the Work-Life Research Centre, based across The Thomas Coram Research Institute, London University, Manchester Metropolitan University and UMIST; and is a regular member of BBC Radio Norfolk's Relationships Panel. Lucy carried out a major research project on teachers' Work-Life Balance for Suffolk Local Education Authority, which included delivering workshops and training sessions to teachers and head teachers. Lucy has a degree in English and Drama and a post-graduate Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector from the University of East Anglia. She did her teaching placement at City College Norwich, so has personal experience of both FE students' and tutors' work-life balance and stress management. She has taught Adult Literacy and Creative Writing and also delivers CPD workshops at City College Norwich. Lucy McCarraher’s first novel, Blood and Water, was published by Macmillan New Writing in 2006. Her two subsequent novels, Kindred Spirits and Mr Mikey’s Ladies were published in 2008 and 2009 Lucy writes self-development books, with social psychologist Annabel Shaw, including A Simpler Life (audio book, published by Creative Content Digital 2009) and The REAL Secret published by Bookshaker at the end of 2010. Publications on Work-Life Balance include The Work Life Manual and The Book of Balanced Living (both written with Lucy Daniels and published by Spiro Press); Get the Balance Right, and Body Language in Business (video-based training packages produced by Melrose). Lucy is Commissioning Editor of Bookshaker, an imprint publishing business and self help books. She has has mentored writers on non fiction books, novels, film, television and theatre scripts. She is an experienced book and script editor and, as a researcher and consultant, has written innumerable business and academic reports. She is a judge for Sunpenny Publications' Short Story Competition and has taught Creative Writing and Literacy to adults and children.
